I grew up on the other side of that lake - it was my grandmas backyard. There was a little dock that led you out to the middle with a wooden bench at the very end. I spent countless afternoons there, letting myself lose track of time then running back to the house just before dark, with splinters in my bare feet and fireflies lighting the way.
Standing at the edge of the water that day, I smiled as the memories came back to me. A good game of truth or dare, sticky hot Summers, ice cold soda pops and sun burnt cheeks ; little pieces of my childhood that I hold close to my heart. I didn't realize until then how essential it was to revisit the past every so often - you must do so to keep the days alive.
