From my heart to paper, from the paper to here; Sunkissed in Seminyak, a series of journal entries from my trip to Seminyak in May 2015.
Day 1 - Sunday, May 24, 2015
Several days of traveling - 72 hours, 3 countries and roughly 12,000 miles later
- I've found myself in paradise.
It's Sunday, May 24th here - 11:28 pm
...and I'm writing to you from my dreamy room. A big bed, white canopy falling around every edge, wooden floors with a faint smell of jasmine filling the room.
I received the warmest welcome when I arrived last night, Georgie White the founder of the Ocean Soul Retreat greeted me at the door with open arms. My heart swelled, this was home for the next week and I was thrilled...
I met the other beautiful ladies staying here, ate a delicious meal, Raw pad Thai salad with barramundi and cauliflower cous cous. Desert was a lemon coconut ice bite served on grapes and bits of grapefruit (yum!) toured the villa and showered under the stars.
I woke up refreshed and excited for this new adventure. Overnight oats with fresh fruit was served for breakfast.
After breakfast was our first surf lesson with Surf School Bali / Instagram @surfschoolbali - Balinese owned and operated. After our lesson was lunch, Nasi goring with mango strawberry and walnut salad an amazing holistic therapy session, a massage and yoga at sunset. Dinner was served shortly after yoga, Miso glazed fish with greens and coconut corn salad. Desert was banana ice cream with nutty ice magic.
This evening I soaked the day away under the star kissed sky, sipped jasmine tea and listened to all of the sounds of Bali - a mix of live local music and traffic. Surrounded by beauty here, beautiful people, beautiful food in a beautiful place. I'm finding inspiration everywhere, my soul has been awaken and it's so eager for what's next.
Day 2 was light, but so fulfilling - it started with a delicious meal, then off to an early morning surf session with Surf School Bali. The afternoon slowed down a bit, so I took advantage. I allowed myself to reflect on inner healing, my values and the intentions I've set.
Here each morning we receive little notes from the villa, the one quoted above was the message I woke to this morning - so I spent the day identifying myself, finding who I am, what I believe in and where it is I want to go. This evening I got all dressed up, (I wore shoes for the first time since I've been here), and went out for dinner + dancing with the girls. The energy here is contagious and my goodness, I'm in love with it.
Day 3 - Tuesday, May 26, 2015
Here's Tuesday, day 3 in the villa -
Up with the sun, ate breakfast with the girls then headed to the Surf School Bali @surfschoolbali. We were all sore from surf and yoga the day before, but went out and played with the sea anyway. In between sets, out in the middle of the blue we all chatted among each other while we waited for our next wave to appear on the horizon and bring us to shore.
Now back at the vila, lunch was served - Followed by the usual, little bit of sunshine and lounging with a massage on the side. Skipped sunset yoga this evening to explore Seminyak with two of the girls staying here at Ocean Soul. Cotton candy painted skies above the Bali streets - we dipped in and out of stores, inhaled the incense burning in the air and snacked on gelato. Yes, dessert before dinner - we're on holiday, okay! We made it back to the retreat in time for dinner (and another dessert). As we all gathered around the big white washed table, sharing our days with one another - I couldn't help but smile, I was right where I was supposed to be and that made my soul sing.
Traded in morning surf for stand up paddle boarding.
Ventured off to Sanur, paddled the morning away, watching the colorful boats on the horizon and the sky change from pink to purple to blue. Ended the session with a coconut the size of my head and a "large" coffee in hand. The ladies and I ordered lunch in and lounged around the dreamy pool here at Ocean Soul Retreat. I flirted with the sun for a bit, then it was off to get pampered. After my facial, a few of us took the scooters to grab a bite to eat at Divine Earth - a cute little café just around the corner. Oh and it WAS Divine indeed - I sipped on a smoothie (the only ingredient I can remember is coconut, lots of coconut) snacked on the best veggie flat bread I've ever had and chatted / laughed with the girls about our week so far. With a full belly and sore cheeks we were off to our evening massage -
Post pamper we walked the streets of Bali back to our cozy little slice of paradise.
Woke up to a delicious breakfast; stuffed myself with fresh fruit and threw my bikini on. The morning surf check suggested we venture off to a new location today, so we found ourselves en route to Jimbaran beach. The beach spot we paddled out at was right in the bay, so the surf was tiny but the scenery made up for it. I can now check "surfing the reef" off my bucket list. While awaiting our next wave we practiced the Bali bahasa, the language of Bali. The surf instructors at Surf School Bali are locals so they were able to correct us when we mispronounced and translate the words we wished to know. Lunch back at the villa, followed by a sunny afternoon of snapping photos and kissing the sun. Mid afternoon I escaped to my room, opened the doors to my balcony and napped for a bit. All the girls met in the yoga room for the closing ceremony. Each of us shared a memory or two. With teary eyes and a full heart I looked around the room at the women I've shared this past week with - I wanted to bottle up a bit of each of them, their energy, their spirit, their love - and bring it back to the States with me.
Here's what my Friday consisted of -
Breakfast was earlier than usual, making sure we had plenty of time to get out to the sea and surf one last time. The waves were bigger today than they had been all week, but that didn't stop us - we paddled out anyway. Rode wave after wave until the morning turned to afternoon. Said our farewells to the instructors, my heart swelling with each goodbye; and headed off to the retreat.
Back at the villa, we snacked on protein balls and chatted about our time here, all sucking up a bit of paradise and waiting until the very last minute to pack up our rooms for departure.
Back in my room - bags packed, room clean and soul shinning. I sat still on my bed simply allowing the beauty around me to sink in. Inhaling the fresh air dancing in from the open balcony door and smiling to myself, this adventure was already one for the books and there was still more to come.
